It’s always a pleasure when you get to see friends from out of town. It’s even greater when that friend has a new record deal and a new CD out on the shelves. Returning for her second visit to the KPFK studios was the lovely and talented Nicky Egan. Nicky was in town from New York and was kind enough to debut a few new songs and talk about what she has been up to the last few years. Make sure to support this wonderful singer/songwriter and pick up a copy of her new album “The 45 Homestead Project” available now on ROPEADOPE RECORDS.
Right after Nicky we had the Long Beach OG himself Danny Holloway take over the wheels of steel and he stepped up into place with two boxes of 45s. He then took everyone to school, dropping classic after classic. A true collector, successful promoter, and good friend of Soundwaves … All praises to the most high for the one and only Smokin’ Vinyl!
Following his Ximeno Record’s partner was local Los Angeles resident and Umoja Hi-Fi member DJ Destroyer. He spoke to Seano earlier in the night and mentioned that he was going to do an all 45 tribute to the legendary Frankie Knuckles who had recently passed away. Expectations were blown away. This turntable scientist did what so many people try to do and fail … mix flawlessly on 45s and maintain the vibe. An amazing mix for all of you 90’s HOUSE folks. Turn it up and enjoy!
